Candidate Withdrawal

Not all candidates will make it through the election process. A candidate withdrawal happens when a candidate formally drops out of the race for a position. Withdrawals happen for many reasons, ranging from personal circumstances to overwhelming competition or conflicts of interest. Candidates still have to communicate their withdrawal with election officials to make it official, usually by following guidelines in the association’s bylaws. Election officials must ensure they remove the candidate from voting materials (when able) and or alert voters about the change.
