Ballot Box

Associations use ballot boxes to securely hold paper ballots during an election. This secure container ensures the confidentiality of votes cast. Most ballot boxes have a lock to prevent tampering or unauthorized access, especially if the box is left unsupervised during elections. Election staff typically keep ballot boxes sealed until it’s time to start the vote-counting process.

While ballot boxes are most often associated with in-person voting, an online voting system also collects digital ballots in a virtual holding pen that’s sometimes referred to as a ballot box.
